Taking Capacity out of the Living Room

Combining AirBNB and Uber, a start-up new initiative is branching out from the success of AirBNB in “ride-sharing”  of empty rooms of suburban houses.  As most of these houses have only bedrooms occupied at night, family rooms and kitchens occupied in the evening and formal living rooms and dining rooms only occupied at holidays, there is plenty of capacity for living to be taken out of the system.  Whether it is a 3000 square foot house or 10,000 square foot house, the average family size in the USA is 3.15 (year 2021) that leaves anywhere from 1000 sf per person to 3000 sf per person.   By scheduling a full day of life activity across multiple locations, an Uberhouse user can plan a whole day of room sharing.

Hosts and users of the Uberhouse will be vetted just like AirBNB hosts and users.  The hope is that this will overcome the non-use of living rooms and dining rooms and provide opportunities for the enjoyment of all the empty rooms of houses in the suburbs and help reduce the current housing shortage.  Based on the number of second homes that exist and use of AirBNB by homeowners, Uberhouse represents a chance to relieve the housing crisis and actually use a “living room.”
