Permanence of Cleavage
There are few things in life that are consistent, such as the sun rising every day, the Chicago Cubs probably never winning another World Series and tariffs being a tax on the consumer. One other persistent constant is the display throughout history of a woman’s breast plate, as an easy safe-for-work display than what the breast plate supports.
Despite all the types of women blouse types – turtleneck, crop top, V-neck, scoop neck, slit neck, crisscross neck, off-shoulder, high neck, U-neck, etc., there is a consistent return to the visibility to the breast plate with the open top blouses. This constant return - is it a human wired-in need for natal nourishment that keeps the breast interesting in the media and in fashion? Or is it a fashion conspiracy over the ages for a certain male audience that also suckers in women into participating in the conspiracy? What is the fascination – the promise of the view of the perfect round orb or the sacred nipple?
It would seem, based on current standards, that the human male psyche is based on a history of sexual attraction, heightened by the legacy of Playboy Magazine. And consequently, this consistent fashion for women tops is a fellow-traveler conspiracy on the part of the male dominated fashion scene, and women seem all too willing and complicit in playing along and playing up their upper asset as a marketing feature for fashion and for themselves.
Is this why certain women are strongly and strangely proud of their assets and the marketability thereof? Ask Paige Spiranac the golfer, Mikayla Demaiter the hockey goalie, Grace Charis another golfer, where the main feature in their media images, both of them that is, may outweigh those women’s athletic talents, which is the opposite of Dolly Parton and her long singing career. These women athletes with their sports activity seem to be trying to elevate themselves above the competition in the less athletic but still leggy supermodel industry, who also are flaunting their assets, possibly in a more deliberate manner.
No sense in stopping this fashion trend in a mass protest action against the fashion industry as women seem quite happy to participate, but the value of understanding this female fashion condition may lie in its consistency through history, until age and gravity catch up with these women and only fashion will maintain the youth of their assets. This fashion trend will continue as a given in human society, to be analyzed but never fully understood, just like women themselves. As Stephen Hawking has noted: "Women. They are a complete mystery." And it is safe to add their decolletage to that mystery.
Postscript: While not directly involved in any focus on fashion, there is a parallel human interest in whether what is below the breast plate is real or surgically enhanced, which may be similar to the competition between real diamonds and laboratory diamonds. Sometimes you can tell, sometimes you cannot.
