Why Buy When You Can Rent? 

Based on the cost of weddings, wedding planning anxiety, the current divorce rate, resultant legal fights over property division and cost of divorce lawyers, the state of Delaware has developed an alternative to the marriage license, a standardized marriage lease agreement. 

While no contest divorce might seem similar in intent, the marriage lease agreement, now being used by many celebrities, allows for a number of lease clauses - a single year time period, personal property inspection, refundable commitment deposit, relationship damage repair deposit, right of entry and last month’s rent deposit.  The signatories of the lease are co-tenants in the lease with equal rights and responsibilities.  Breach of the lease agreement carries some penalties for unauthorized infidelity, pet peeve actions (leaving the toilet seat up) and neglect of sex.

According to the Clerk of the Peace in New Castle County, Delaware, the leasing agreement has made a huge difference in the quality of life with the only major complaints coming from wedding planners, divorce lawyers and marriage counselors.
